Sustainability

Digital infrastructure built inside the region’s environmental limits.

TERA Data Centers integrates sustainability considerations into the design and operation of its data center campuses. Where available, campuses are designed to take advantage of renewable energy sources and reclaimed water solutions, helping improve resource efficiency and strengthen long-term operational resilience.

By considering power and water infrastructure together from the outset, TERA can build data center capacity that is designed to scale efficiently with customer demand while supporting customers’ evolving sustainability goals. This integrated approach helps deliver reliable, resilient infrastructure while reducing reliance on constrained resources where practical.

Malaysia’s first Platinum-certified green data center.

The AI-capable hyperscale campus in Gelang Patah, Johor is the first hyperscale data center in Malaysia to receive provisional GreenRE Platinum certification for water, energy and sustainability design. Platinum is the highest rating under the scheme established by the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association.

What we commit to.

  1. Green Building Certifications

Pursue recognised green building certifications, including Malaysia’s Green Building Index (GBI) and internationally recognised LEED certification, where applicable.

  2. Green and Safe City Initiatives

Incorporate green and safe city principles into the development, including landscaped and green areas, solar-powered street lighting, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and other measures that enhance the overall environmental quality and safety of the development.

  3. Energy and Water Efficiency

Adopt advanced technologies and innovative solutions to improve energy and water efficiency, including optimising cooling systems, reducing water consumption and exploring reclaimed water solutions where available.

What this means in each market.

Water scarcity, grid mix and the certification schemes all differ by country. Each campus is designed to the conditions it actually sits in.

Malaysia

Johor · Kuala Lumpur

The Johor campus is designed to run on 100% reclaimed water, treated through two dedicated treatment plants located next to the site, so the state’s domestic potable supply is never drawn down to cool a data center. TERA was among the earliest signatories to the Johor Special Water Project, the state government’s initiative for sustainable water use among high-impact industries.

A signed MoU for a large-scale, long-term green energy programme will supply renewable energy generated by solar farm assets, scheduled to commence in 2028 and projected to deliver approximately 630,000 MWh a year, in direct support of the national energy transition.

Thailand

Rayong · Chonburi · Chachoengsao

Three campuses in the Eastern Economic Corridor, designed to the same 1.25 – 1.30 PUE range as the rest of the estate.

Water strategy, renewable supply and the certification being pursued are to be confirmed by the Thailand team.

Indonesia

Cikarang · Jakarta

Four campuses across Greater Jakarta, designed to the same 1.25 – 1.30 PUE range as the rest of the estate.

Water strategy, renewable supply and the certification being pursued are to be confirmed by the Indonesia team.
