About the role

Responsible for full-cycle mechanical technical management of data center projects in Southeast Asia, from design, procurement, construction, and commissioning to handover, ensuring mechanical systems are delivered on time, with quality, in compliance, and in line with Tier III/IV, energy efficiency, redundancy, and maintainability requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design Management and Technical Review Participate in concept, preliminary, and construction drawing reviews for data center mechanical systems, including chilled water systems, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC, precision air conditioning, fresh air and exhaust, humidification/dehumidification, pumps, plate heat exchangers, thermal storage tanks, piping and valves, generator exhaust, and fire smoke exhaust. Review heat load, airflow organization, cooling source schemes, equipment selection, redundancy, and PUE optimization.
  • Construction Technical Management Review contractor shop drawings, material and equipment submittals, RFIs, and technical clarifications. Supervise site installation quality, including ductwork, piping, insulation, supports and hangers, welding, pressure testing, flushing, air balancing, and water balancing. Coordinate interfaces with civil, electrical, ELV, and fire protection disciplines.
  • Testing and Commissioning Support Participate in mechanical single-equipment tests, system integration, and integrated performance tests, including chilled water systems, cooling towers, CRAH, pumps, AHUs, exhaust, pressurization, fire smoke exhaust, and BMS/DCIM integration. Review commissioning plans, scripts, and reports; support IST, Level 4/5 commissioning, and handover.
  • Vendor and Contractor Management Participate in technical bid evaluation, equipment FAT/SAT, installation guidance, and coordination of schedule, quality, and safety. Resolve site technical issues and drive contractors to close out rectifications on time.
  • Compliance and Standards Ensure mechanical works comply with ASHRAE, TIA-942, Uptime Tier, NFPA, SMACNA, ASME, and local codes in Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Support government approvals, inspections, and completion filing.
  • Cost and Schedule Support Review technical aspects of quantities, variations, and claims. Provide mechanical engineering support for procurement, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Completion and Handover Assist in compiling as-built drawings, O&M manuals, spare parts lists, training materials, and warranty documents. Support final acceptance and project handover.
  • HSE and Cross-Cultural Collaboration Comply with project HSE requirements and participate in safety inspections. Communicate effectively with multinational teams, clients, consultants, general contractors, and subcontractors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, Energy & Power, or related disciplines.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of mechanical/HVAC engineering experience, with at least 3 years in data center or mission-critical facilities (e.g., semiconductor fab, hospital, laboratory, large-scale computer room). Full-cycle data center experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with data center mechanical architecture, redundancy (N+1, 2N), Tier III/IV standards, chilled water systems, free cooling, and liquid cooling/cold plate technologies is an advantage.
  • Experience in Thailand, Malaysia, or Indonesia, with knowledge of local codes, approval processes, and construction practices, is preferred.
  • Languages: Fluency in English is required as a working language. Proficiency in Chinese, Thai, Bahasa Malaysia, or Bahasa Indonesia is an added advantage.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, MS Project, and Office; BIM experience is preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as Registered Mechanical Engineer, PE, CEng, LEED AP, Uptime ATD/ATS, or PMP are preferred.
  • Willing to be based on-site long-term or travel frequently across Southeast Asia.

Preferred Skills

  • Full delivery experience in Uptime Tier III/IV data centers
  • Background with local design institutes, consultants, general contractors, or owners in Southeast Asia
  • Familiarity with local approval and safety systems such as Thailand EIA/Factory Act, Malaysia UBBL/DOSH, Indonesia SNI/K3/PUPR
  • Experience with liquid cooling, cold plate, or immersion cooling technologies Experience in multinational team management or technical lead roles

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Timely closure rate of mechanical design reviews and RFIs
  • NCR closure rate and rectification close-out timeliness
  • First-time pass rate of commissioning and on-time IST completion
  • On-time completion of as-built documentation and handover
  • Effectiveness of mechanical variation and cost control
  • Zero major HSE incidents

Working Conditions

  • Based at project sites, with possible rotation among Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia depending on project phase
  • Overtime or shift work may be required during commissioning and handover
  • Compliance with local labor laws, visa requirements, and project HSE rules
